Forced Marching- These young boys are being made to march military-style at the Hoopa Valley boarding school for unknown reasons. Boys were forced to cut their hair and wear military-sytle uniforms upon arrival, girls were made to wear dresses. Re-education centers for California indigenous children were created all over the country at the end of the Gold Rush era. Photo courtesy of the Indian Action Council.
